To an audience of over 100,000 and millions watching live online, Marc Benioff, CEO of, announced the company's newest product, Wave, the Salesforce Analytics Cloud at Dreamforce 2014.

With Hawaiian music, the Beach Boys and even a boat on stage, Benioff and his team showcased Wave, the first cloud analytics platform "designed for every business user," according to The platform enables customers to easily and quickly explore data, uncover new insights and take action instantly from any device.

To set the stage of the product release, Benioff clearly called out the value of data and its growth in the business world today. “90% of the world’s data was created in the last two years," shares Benioff, "There’s going to be 10 times more mobile data by 2020, 19 times more unstructured data, and 50 times more product data by 2020.” Benioff went on to call the state of data a “data revolution” and all of this data has resulted in a “data divide” for customers, according to Business Insider

In the past, the focus was gathering the data, but today, the mindset has shifted to analyzing and unlocking the data's potential. Data impacts every aspect of business, and the key to understanding your customer, your business, your market, and your future is in the data. However, many are challenged by what to do with all of this data. Benioff realized there was a clear need for a stronger data analytics software, and thus was born Wave, according to Business Insider.
